Dinner group, my house
16 October 2008
Kelly, Aaron, Chris and I gathered over Indian food, celebrating the very non-local ingredients I ordered on Ebay. In my defense, I only ordered these ingredients online because the Co-op doesn’t carry them, and because I didn’t want to make an otherwise unnecessary trip to some city.
We had samosas (I made the wrap with 1/2 whole wheat, 1/2 white flour and I skipped the rice flour), carrot and green chile stir-fry (too much lime juice, in my opinion, but otherwise lovely), cilantro peanut chutney
(I used serrano peppers and didn’t take the seeds out, and it was SO SPICY, so I mixed it with 2 cups
of yogurt) and coconut pistachio sweetmeat. This is only the first page of the recipe, so let me know if you want the rest. I didn’t follow it at all, so I ended up with pudding, that wasn’t a hit.

Hi Anna Lisa,
Thank you for blogging about StoryCorps and for attending Dave Isay’s presentation at Butler University! He was so impressed with the students and the way the school incorporated “Listening Is an Act of Love” into Welcome Week. We hope that other schools will consider doing the same.
After taking a look at your blog, I thought you might enjoy this recent StoryCorps story that came out of our MobileBooth stop in Abilene, Texas. It is from a father and son who share your love of feeding people!
You can listen here: http://www.storycorps.net/listen/stories/joe-spano-and-his-son-joe-jr
I also thought you might be interested in the National Day of Listening, which StoryCorps is launching this November, 28, 2008. We are asking Americans to take an hour to honor a friend, loved one, or someone whose story they have always been curious about by asking, “tell me about your life.”
The National Day of Listening website (www.nationaldayoflistening.org) contains more information, tips for a Do-it-Yourself style interview as well as a video that walks viewers through an interview scenario. Since so many Americans aren’t able to make it to a StoryCorps recording booth, we’re making it easier for everyone to share this experience in their own homes.
Again, thank you for writing about Dave’s time at Butler on your blog. We hope you will share the idea of National Day of Listening and these Do-it-Yourself tools with your readers, family, and friends, helping us make the experience of listening as an act of love even more accessible.
Thanks again for helping us spread the word!
