Though she avoided taking preaching classes in seminary until her last semester so she could get an M.Div., sermons are currently Anna Lisa’s ideal writing medium, offering

  • Inherent conversation between the holy stories of scripture and the holy stories of our lives

  • Constant invitation to pursue metaphor, which empowers human learning and empathy

  • Relevance for specific people in a specific place at a specific time, fomenting sincerity and accountability

“When I write a sermon I have the faces and stories of the people who will hear it in my mind and heart. I realize they’ll be loosely held captive by me for about 15 minutes and I don’t want to waste their time by failing to speak to the aches and passions of their lives.”
