The smallest puppy, #6, Hannah Olivier, continues to be the smallest. Consistently, the largest is 30% heavier than #6. Still, Hannah Olivier gains and gains along with the rest. She opened her eyes a full 24 hours before the rest, so she is using her energy well! She's often the last eating - she sure wants the food, but takes longer to get enough - even now that they're eating milk/kibble puree. She looks and feels smaller, for sure. She also initiates play more often than many of her siblings. Here she is with her sister #5 (the largest).

Mama Mabel is all for the crawling in my lap now that she realizes she can. She's also learned to go up and down the stairs. We're limiting her food to help her milk dry up. She'd like to go to Claire's with her friends to buy earrings (in other words, follow Phillip and I everywhere).
Nine is too many for my lap, but it's worth a try.
How can we convince these puppies to lap? Mom doesn't feed them enough to begin with, and now they have baby teeth and she's sore and staying away. But most of the puppies are not lapping yet, and none can lap a full meal. We've been using milk replacer but today we're going to try soaked puppy kibble, too. The milk cools down basically instantly, and the puppies only believe warm things can be edible.
Which puppy? The colors on the right are in birth order, top to bottom.
You can play around with this version, too, and let me know if you have insight into publishing embed code from google sheets (e.g., why can't I enlarge the box?) |
